PREPAREING OUR CHILDREN TO BECOME STEADFAST IN THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

A Resolution of the Nebraska Association of Regular Baptist Churches

April 9, 2010

WHEREAS, a disturbingly large percentage of children raised in Christian homes in America leave the Church
and the Christian faith after their teen years;

AND, WHEREAS, among 18-29 year olds, one in four claim no religious affiliation naking them the “least
overtly religious American generation in modern times” (pewsocialtrends.org)

AND, WHEREAS, only 9% of professing Christians have a Biblical worldview (Barna Research Study, 2003);

AND, WHEREAS, far too many evangelical churches “promote the idea of the churches as a full-service
entertainment and activity center” (Dr. R. Alvert Mohler) rather than God’s institution for inculcating an
authoritative and well-reasoned defense of the historic Christian faith;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we, the messengers in fellowship with the Nebraska Association of
Regular Baptist Churches, meeting for its 53 rd Annual Spring Bible Conference at Karen Street Baptist Church
of Omaha, Nebraska, on April 8-10, 2010, admonish and exhort Christian families and every fellowshipping
church to plan, promote, and practice the deliberate and systematic teaching of sound doctrine to our children.
This endeavor ought to begin in the Christin home and be sustained and built upon by the ministry of the local
church.

We further resolve to carry out this resolution because the Holy Scriptures exhort us to “teach them diligently
upon to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you
lie down, and when you rise up. . .you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates”
(Deuteronomy 6:7, 9 NKJV).

And, we resolve to educate and equip ourselves with Biblical answers on the very crucial issues of life origins,
life’s spiritual meaning, Biblical morality, and life after death, so that we may impart spiritual wisdom to our
children and confidence in the truth of what Scriptures teach and what they believe.

And, we - our pastors and teachers - resolve to teach the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27-28) by means of
expository and Bible-centered preaching and teaching (1 st Timothy 4:6; 2 nd Timothy 4:2, 5, 7) so that our youth
are “equipped for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. . . to the measure of the stature
and of the fullness of Christ: (Ephesians 4:12, 13), and consequently able and “ready to give a defense of the
faith to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you...” (1 st Peter 3:15).

And, finally, we resolve to practice what we preach and teach with lives filled with faith, hope, and love which
are beautiful in the sight of the Lord and winsome to our children.
